Indy Pride, Inc. to Support Indiana Youth Group with $165k Commitment

INDIANAPOLIS, April 20, 2017 – Indy Pride, Inc., a cornerstone of Central Indiana’s LGBTQ+ community, announced a $165,000 commitment last week to Indiana Youth Group’s “Power of Safe” capital campaign. This three-year commitment will see Indy Pride move its offices to the future home of IYG, located at 3733 N. Meridian Street. Indy Pride also announced a new admission fee for this year’s Circle City IN Pride Festival. Funds raised by the admission fee ($4 in advance or $5 at the door) will support the IYG commitment as well as other LGBTQ+ focused organizations in Indiana.

“Indy Pride is proud to invest in the future of the LGBTQ+ community by partnering with Indiana Youth Group,” Jason H. Nolen-Doerr, President of the Indy Pride, Inc. Board of Directors, said. “We are working in tandem with donors to provide resources to secure a space for our youth today, programming for the local LGBTQ+ community and the development of future leaders.”

“The possibilities are endless in a world where Indy Pride and Indiana Youth Group collaborate for the betterment of the community, especially when it impacts our LGBTQ+ youth. IYG is always looking for volunteer engagement opportunities from the community and a place where our youth can connect when they age out of IYG services. Indy Pride is a logical partner for IYG,” said IYG Director of Communications and Development Buffy Adams.

Adams further explained the important timing of this $165,000 commitment as IYG has experienced a surge in attendance since the signing of Indiana’s controversial Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) in 2015, “IYG has a bit of a chicken and an egg situation occurring: As youth attendance increases, we need to add more relevant programming AND the more relevant programming we add, the more youth attendance increases! “

Price of entrance to the festival will also cover enhancements to the attendee experience, improved security measures, hydration and cooling stations, diversified entertainment and a robust family zone with family-focused entertainment.

“We truly see the admission fee as an opportunity for attendees to make a personal investment in the Circle City IN Pride Festival, the future of Indy Pride, and the support offered to the entire LGBTQ+ community,” said H.R. Jung, Indy Pride Festival Director. A supply of complimentary tickets will be provided to area service providers and non-profit organizations to assist those enduring financial hardships. “We are committed to maintaining the accessibility of our programming and are excited to partner with service providers throughout the state to help those in financial need experience the Festival,” Jung added.
