very year, we re-evaluate the demands placed on the Circle City IN Pride Festival, which remains Indiana’s largest annual LGBTQ+ celebration. This year, we recognized the need for a location suited to provide the best experience for festival goers, vendors, & performers.
On Tuesday, September 13, we held a Town Hall Meeting that brought together members of the organization and the community to present research and answer questions about the proposal to move. The festival’s location had been an ongoing internal discussion since the move to American Legion Mall in 2010. But with a greater emphasis on inclusion and accessibility, and the continued size limitations at the American Legion Mall, the time for change was undeniable.
The Historic Military Park at White River State Park, with its larger capacity, will provide greater usable space and staging opportunities–including a more robust Family Zone. Festival participants will enjoy more gathering space with greater accessibility, thanks in part to the park’s flatter landscape.
The layout for the Historic Military Park at White River State Park will give the festival greater security and help yield quicker response times for emergency responders and staff. The festival would also benefit from greater traffic control and a marked increase in close parking options.
The 2017 Circle City IN Pride Festival will be Saturday, June 10, 12p – 8p. Stay tuned for details and announcements.
